At Great Hearts Roosevelt, we’re committed to providing the very best classical education for our scholars. Each day, our teachers cultivate the hearts and minds of students through the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty—and their impact extends far beyond the classroom.

Mr. Wellman is a dedicated U.S. History 6th grade teacher at Great Hearts Roosevelt, where he brings passion and purpose to his classroom every day. After just a few seconds in his classroom it is evident that he is not only passionate about what he does, but that his passion for learning is CONTAGIOUS.

His classroom is full of engaged students, filled with wonder and expectation of what is to come. Having grown up in classical education and later attending the liberal arts institution Wheaton College, Mr. Wellman understands both the beauty and challenge of lifelong learning. Despite his own struggles with learning, he was shaped by the steady encouragement of faithful and consistent educators who believed in him, stating

“I would not be who or where I am today, if it wasn’t for them”. Their influence inspired him to pursue teaching, where he now strives to have the same influence on his students.

In his classroom, Mr. Wellman hopes to ignite a love for American history, while equipping his students with the tools to think critically about the world around them. He treasures the fact that at Great Hearts, a classical, Socratic education is accessible to all students.

For Mr. Wellman, teaching is not just a job but a calling. He is appreciative that at Roosevelt he is continually challenged to be a scholar and remains refined in his pursuit to not only truth goodness and beauty but also become the best educator he can be.

Thanks to the support of our families and Community Investment, we’re able to provide this level in individualized guidance—ensuring every student is prepared for what comes next.
